One of the underlying reasons that Tesla has managed to be so successful is its implementation of the Supercharger network. Now, new details are emerging about the latest version, V4. Not only does it support 350 kW output but it has a new cord and other features that could improve the user experience.
Tesla’s V4 version of the Supercharger has been out in the wild for some time across the pond. Despite that, it hasn’t dropped any details about exactly how capable it is or what new features it employs. Now, thanks to some excellent investigative work by a Reddit user, we know a lot more.
According to u/RealPokePOP, planning documents show that these chargers are capable of up to 350 kW output, which is a big upgrade. The current V3 version supports up to 250 kW output which is still good but quickly fading from glory. Cars with larger battery packs, like the ones that will soon be able to charge at Supercharger stations, will see the biggest benefit.

That being said, it’s worth noting that as of this writing, Tesla doesn’t sell a single vehicle that can take full advantage of these increased charging speeds. That might not be the case by the end of the year though as we still don’t know exactly how much output the Cybertruck can handle. Regardless, there are some other benefits to this new V4 Supercharger.
That includes a longer charging cord. While Tesla has made waves this year as it’s opened up the Supercharger network to other brands, there’s been a pain point there. Superchargers are designed for Teslas so the cord hasn’t always easily reached the port location on other brands’ EVs. This longer cord should help with that.
In addition, the Supercharger V4 also has a small space for a screen and a contactless payment terminal which could take some of the hassle out of having to download the Tesla app for customers without a Tesla. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Tesla before we can fully confirm those details though.
