Pictures and details of the long-awaited BMW M2 Competition have leaked online following an early publication by BMW Australia.

The information confirms that the M2 Competition uses the same S55 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine as the M4 but has been detuned to 410 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. BMW quotes a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.2 seconds with a dual-clutch transmission. The punchy engines revs up to 7600 rpm.

No mention has been made as to whether or not the M2 Competition will be offered with a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Even if it’s not, the short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive system, and compact nature of the car promise to make it an absolute treat to drive.

Visual modifications are minor

From a visual standpoint, the M2 Competition isn’t as different from the current M2 as anticipated. The most significant changes include a redesigned black kidney grille and slightly enlarged air intakes. Additionally, the car receives the M4’s wing mirrors and comes with bespoke black wheels. A new diffuser and altered tailpipes are also featured.

A quick look in the cabin reveals M4 seats, a red starter button, and familiar ‘M1’ and ‘M2’ buttons on the steering wheel which offer configurable drive settings.

The BMW M2 Competition is expected to launch at this month’s Beijing Motor Show.
