Airstream loves a good collab and their latest involves REI as the two companies have teamed up for a special edition Basecamp 20X.
The new travel trailer is an evolution of the current Basecamp 16 REI Edition and is 4 feet longer. That doesn’t sound like much of a change, but the new model is family friendly as it can sleep up to four people.
That’s two more than the Basecamp 16 and this is due to a revamped floor plan, which features a spacious front dinette that can be transformed into a bed. Another convertible seating area is located in back, but the wraparound front bench seems far more inviting.

Staying inside, the eco-friendly special edition has “fabrics and laminates made from post-consumer recycled materials.” Highlights include sustainably grown wood cabinetry and a cutting board sink cover made from recycled paper.
Other niceties include a water heater, a UV water purification system, and a built-in floor cooler with a drain. They’re joined by a two-burner cooktop, a stainless steel sink, and a full wet bath. The model also comes with a 25-piece REI Co-op kit that includes “essential items like dishware, flatware, storage cubes, and more.” This is on top of REI-specific touches including spruce green accents and special branding.
An assortment of options are available including a composting toilet, an air conditioner, and an off-grid package. The latter includes a 200Ah lithium battery bank and a 360-watt solar panel.
Speaking of getting away from it all, the Airstream Basecamp 20X features a three-inch lift kit and Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires. Buyers will also find stainless steel front stone guards, a rear door, and larger holding tanks for added time outdoors.
Pricing starts at $62,400 which is only $9,500 more than the smaller 16 foot model. The REI Co-op Special Edition Basecamp 20X also tips the scales at 3,500 pounds (1,588 kg), so it’s light enough to be towed by small pickups and SUVs.
