As recently as 2016, Jaguar had yet to offer an SUV of its own. But in the past couple of years, it has introduced three new crossovers. And it has another in the works that will cap the range.

Autocar reports that JLR is working on a new J-Pace model in the works. It’d be larger than the F-Pace, to say nothing of the smaller E-Pace and electric I-Pace. The model is tipped to borrow heavily on the flagship Range Rover’s architecture, but with its own unique styling and a more road-focused bias.

The target, according to Autocar, will be the Porsche Cayenne. Not a bad goal, considering that the Cayenne veritably set off the current trend of high-end crossovers. It’s a tidal wave in which other exotic marques like Maserati, Lamborghini, and Bentley have already been swept up. And Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and Ferrari are soon to follow as well.

Jaguar was once satisfied letting its sister company Land Rover tackle the luxury SUV marketplace. But with Land Rover accounting for the lion’s share of the group’s sales, parent company Tata was keen to get Jaguar into the game as well.

The J-Pace isn’t the only new model Jaguar has in the works, though. The British automaker is said to have nine new models in development. Expect a new XJ sedan to sit alongside its higher-riding counterpart, a possible successor to the XK coupe, and additional and refreshed versions of the existing models in its range, all to launch in the coming years.
