Toyota was full of surprises in yesterday’s unveiling of the Land Cruiser 250 Series; besides the announcement of the facelifted 70 Series, they teased three new products. The single photo shows the dark silhouette of a rugged off-roader that could be the successor of the FJ Cruiser, another modern-styled SUV, and an off-road electric scooter with three wheels.
It is not clear if the vehicles are concepts or future production vehicles but there is a high chance we are looking at the latter. Simon Humphries, Chief Branding Officer said: “Our customers trust us to keep the Land Cruiser relevant and thriving in the future. And this future could mean anything. From carbon-neutral approaches to ensuring the Land Cruiser brand is more affordable and within reach of even more people around the world. What it may even mean, is exploring new approaches to mobility, that enhance not only the Land Cruiser experience but also further people’s freedom in motion” concluding that “there are lots of exciting paths to changing the future of cars”.

The vehicle on the left is probably the most interesting of the bunch, looking like a production version of the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV concept from 2021. Similarities include the rugged bumpers, the LED lights, and the dropping roofline above the thick C-pillar. However, the teased SUV appears to be larger, featuring a significantly higher ground clearance, beefier tires, and a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate.
Toyota didn’t share any details about the technical specifications but there is a high chance it comes with a fully electric powertrain. The five-door model could serve as the long-rumored replacement for the FJ Cruiser which recently bowed out of production after 17 years. If it ends up in production, its off-road-focused nature could make it a direct rival to the Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler.
The other SUV included in the teaser looks substantially different, adopting a more sleek design. The sculpted bodywork and the aerodynamic roofline look different from the bZ Large SUV Concept from 2021 while the small intakes at the front point out to a fully electric powertrain. Its presence in a Land Cruiser presentation could mean that Toyota plans on expanding the nameplate’s lineup with a more road-focused SUV offering.
Finally, the last vehicle appears to be an electric scooter with two wheels at the front and one at the back. Its design makes it capable of driving off the beaten track, while the saddle has room for a single rider. A possible Land Cruiser-branded scooter would be in line with Humphries’ comments about “new approaches to mobility” that could make the iconic nameplate more affordable.
You can watch the part of the presentation with the teaser starting at the 17.50 mark of the video below:
