It’s no secret that cars are more expensive than ever before. The average suggested retail price bares that out but the truth is that cars, in general, are better than ever too. That doesn’t mean that all of them are worth their asking price though. That’s even more accurate when we take into account greedy dealer markups. With all of that in mind, what’s the most overpriced car on the market today?
Overpriced can mean a lot of things but for the sake of this QOTD we’ll focus on average price over MSRP and what one gets for that cash. We’re also going to rule out cars that are above six figures because let’s be real, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is cool but there’s zero chance that it’s worth $28 million.
That being said, we’ll turn our attention to a recent study we highlighted that shows how much cars are actually selling for nationwide. In our first report, we focused on the six cars currently selling for under MSRP. Today, let’s take a look at the worst offenders as all three seem quite overpriced.

Coming in third is the Genesis G70 with an MSRP of $45,568 and an average selling price of $56,974. That’s a whopping 25 percent over MSRP, which is just plain silly. The point of the G70 is that it’s an incredible value over its competition. For $56,974 or anything close to it, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series both look a lot more tempting.
Second place goes to the MINI Cooper hardtop both in two-door and four-door variants. That group of cars has an average MSRP of $29,632 and an average selling price of $37,237, or an average markup of 25.7 percent. Again, the MINI Cooper is a great little car and it’s a lot of fun to drive but for that kind of money, it’s a big out of sorts.
Finally, the top spot goes to none other than our lead image, the Jeep Wrangler with an average price of $54,970 and an average MSRP of just $41,966. The Wrangler is fun but it doesn’t shine nearly as brightly on the road as it does sans pavement. At that kind of price you could score a very well-equipped Ford Bronco Outer Banks with the Sasquatch package.
