Single seaters. The number of places inside a grand prix racer is so essential that that’s what they’re known by. But every once in a while, someone comes along and makes one with extra room on board. And that’s just what we have here.
Built in 2000 by the now-defunct Arrows team, this tandem two-seat chassis was designed to let guests experience what it’s like to lap a race track in a modern F1 car, even if they can’t actually drive one – or take along a friend if they can.
The elongated chassis features a second seat placed behind the driver, with a slightly higher seating position offering an unobstructed view of the track. It packs a 3.5-liter V8 engine good for 650 horsepower, channeled through an X-Trac sequential gearbox. It was completely overhauled in 2004, since which it has only covered 400 kilometers (250 miles). The Lotus-Renault team acquired it following Arrows’ departure from the grid, repainting it in its own black and gold livery (reminiscent of the iconic JPS scheme).
It’s now offered for sale by Jean Lain Vintage in the French Alps. Though the price is only listed on request, offers are welcome. With only a handful of vehicles like this ever made (including one by McLaren and another by Dallara), this could be your chance.
