Omoda, the latest Chery brand that was inaugurated in 2022, expanded its lineup in Mexico with the addition of the O5 GT joining the regular O5 sedan and the C5 SUV. The sporty-looking four-door sedan is actually a rebadged version of the Chery Arrizo 5 GT that debuted in China last year, sharing the same Lexus-inspired face and turbocharged petrol engine.

The highlight of the Chinese model is the front end which looks kind of familiar. The massive X-shaped “spindle” grille that covers most of the front bumper and the slim LED headlights come directly from Lexus’ sketchbook, while the vertical intakes send strong Toyota vibes. The profile and the rear end are carried over from the lesser Omoda O5, merging elements from older Hyundais and the VW Virtus. In terms of footprint, the O5 GT measures 4,691 mm (184.7 inches) long, making it 11 mm (0.4 inches) shorter than a VW Jetta.

Chinese Omoda O5 GT Sedan Debuts In Mexico With A Lexus Face, 194 HP 1.6L Four

Inside, the Omoda O5 GT features dual 10.25-inch screens in a Mercedes-style single panel. Sporty interior touches include fake carbon fiber trim, bucket seats with red piping on the black leather-style upholstery (also available in lava red), and aluminum pedals. The high-spec trim gets heated and ventilated seats, and more ADAS features including blind-spot monitoring.

The Omoda O5 GT comes fitted with a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine making a potent 194 hp (145 kW / 197 PS) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, allowing a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 6 seconds.

The company didn’t announce pricing for the Omoda O5 GT that will soon be available in Mexico. The model will certainly be more expensive than the standard O5 which is already available with a Kia-style face, a different interior, and a less powerful 144 hp (107 kW / 146 PS) turbo 1.5-liter engine mated to a CVT.

The Omoda O5 GT will reportedly be exported to other markets including Russia. After all, the Russian market accounts for 45% of the brand’s global sales according to Wikipedia.
