Police say that five teenagers are under arrest after a chase involving two stolen cars. Michigan authorities utilized a helicopter and a K9 unit to nab the fleeing suspects. The chase might end up leading investigators back to bigger crimes.
According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, officers attempted to pull over a Dodge Caravan with no tail lights around 2:40 am on August 21st. The minivan didn’t stop and instead proceeded on at low speeds until it pulled off of the road and two people jumped out while it was still rolling. Video below captured the switch.
Those two individuals then jumped into a white Ford Fusion and a second segment of the chase began. According to WZZM13, police broke off the chase due to concerns surrounding the way the Ford driver was driving. Some 30 minutes later another officer spotted what it believed to be the same Ford. Police arrived on the scene for it to speed away again.

This time, authorities chased the Ford until it took a turn too quickly and crashed. The video shows that the error appeared to be mostly unforced. Police nabbed the driver but four other suspects took off on foot. That’s when a police helicopter and a K9 unit showed up to catch the rest of the passengers.
Aerial footage using an infrared camera depicts a group of officers making their way through the area. One by one, police find their suspects. All five in total ended up being teenagers including three 13-year-olds. One 16-year-old male and an 18-year-old male round out the quintet.
“3/4 of the vehicles stolen in Kent County aren’t KIAs or Hyundais so that leaves us to believe as we interview owners that keys are left behind either on purpose or on accident and that’s how vehicles are being taken,” said Sgt. Eric Brunner,- Spokesperson, Kent County Sheriff’s Office. In this case, police believe the suspects might be wanted for a string of recent business break-ins. The investigation continues.
