The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Golden Era is the very definition of art on wheels and it is thanks to the lead designer of Bugatti’s exclusive Sur Mesure program that it was brought to life.
Jascha Straub has been working at Bugatti for many years and played an important role in the exterior designs of the limited-run Divo and the Centodieci. With the Chiron Super Sport Golden Era, he worked hand-in-hand with the owner for more than two years to create a Bugatti unlike any other.
In the case of the Golden Era, Straub hand sketched no less than 26 famous Bugatti models onto the exterior of the hypercar. These include classics like the Type 57 SC Atlantic and Type 41 Royale as well as modern Bugatti models such as the EB110, Veyron, Chiron, Divo, and the one-off La Voiture Noire. Straub works closely with all Bugatti customers ordering their vehicles through the Sur Mesure program and guides them through the near-infinite possibilities of unique touches that can be made to make any Bugatti stand out from the rest.
“Sometimes customers come with a clear vision of what they want, which could be an homage to a certain racing car for example. Then we work together to figure out how we can transport the essence of that car into the present. We look at certain splits and color combinations and little Easter eggs and details, but always done in an extremely authentic way,” Straub describes.

Once Straub finishes the design process with the customer, he works with the design and engineering teams to bring the vision to life. This could include creating new paint colors, designing patterns, and checking engineering compliance of bespoke parts. It took more than 400 hours to create the unique finish on the Chiron Super Sport Golden Era.
Bugatti also offered the owner of the one-off Chiron the chance to order a matching Baby Bugatti II. They did just that are Straub led the design of it too, having it finished in the same shade of Doré gold and Nocturne Black. The special Baby Bugatti II has also been hand sketched and includes a drawing of Ettore Bugatti, his son Roland, and the original Baby Bugatti that he built for him.
