Toyota has added some extra sizzle to its full-size Sequoia SUV line with the introduction of a new Nightshade appearance package for 2024. Also available on the big Tundra pickup, the Nightshade option is only tickable when you order the mid-range Limited trim and brings black painted 20-inch wheels, black mirror caps, a black grille, and a body-color – rather than chrome-trimmed – grille surround.

Also new for the third-generation Sequoia’s second season is the extended availability of the TRD Off Road Package. Buyers choosing the base SR5 and Limited trims could already select this deal, but it’s now open to those choosing the more up-scale Platinum grade, provided they’ve opted for all-wheel drive.

Unlike the more style-oriented TRD Sport package, the Off-Road version adds some real wilderness credibility. There’s a selectable locking rear differential, Crawl Control, and a Multi-Terrain monitor to help you spot obstacles that might not otherwise be visible from the driver’s seat. Other components include TRD-tuned Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, TRD-tuned springs, aluminum pedals, and a red starter button.

Buyers choosing a Limited-grade Sequoia now get the choice of a bench seat or captain’s chairs for the second row, but there are no changes under the hood for any of the grades. Toyota’s flagship SUV junked its old naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 engine for a hybrid-assisted twin-turbo V6 when the model was comprehensively renewed for 2023, and that’s the same setup you’ll find up-front in the ’24 truck. It generates 437 hp (443 PS) and a useful 583 lb-ft (790 Nm) of torque, which is 56 hp (57 PS) and 182 lb-ft (246 Nm) more than the old V8.

The 2024 Sequoia range starts at $62,725 (inc dest) for the rear-wheel drive SR5 and stretches up to $82,715 for an all-wheel drive Capstone model. The Nightshade pack commands a modest $500 premium, but the TRD Off-Road kit will set you back between $2,675 and $4,290 depending on how many luxury items (such as the JBL sound system) you bundle with it.
