Honey, I Shrunk The Phantom: Seven Exotics Rendered As City Cars

Cast your mind back to 2010, when Aston Martin decided it was a good idea to launch a city car. The Toyota iQ-based model, dubbed the Cygnet, represented a miserable low for the British automaker and, hopefully, is something that’ll never be repeated.

The rebadged iQ might have been a monumental failure, but that was due to its price and incongruous character. Normal city cars are, in fact, quite popular in big cities throughout the world. With this in mind, insurance company Budget Direct has decided to imagine what seven exotics would look like if they were transformed into city cars.

The cars used as the basis for these renderings are the Rolls-Royce Phantom, McLaren 720S, Lamborghini Aventador S, Koenigsegg Agera, Ferrari 812 Superfast, Bugatti Chiron and Bentley Bentayga.

It’s not the first time we see such an exercise and, obviously, none of these cars will ever come to fruition, as it’s unlikely any of the brands in question would ever consider creating city cars no matter how popular they may become. Nevertheless, a couple of them look rather cute, especially the mini Phantom and 812 Superfast – but that’s all there is to it.

If the Cygnet taught us anything, it’s that premium automakers should never compromise their status in return for a (doubtful) increase in sales. At least not in that way, for SUVs are a whole different story and the market has proved that it just can’t get enough of them.
