BYD will remove the ‘Build Your Dreams’ lettering on the rear of new EVs sold in the UK, after copping a fair amount of criticisms from owners, dealers, and the press.

The popular Atto 3 SUV was the first vehicle introduced by BYD into the UK market and features the prominent lettering across the tailgate. The smaller and even more affordable BYD Dolphin also has the slogan incorporated into its rear LED light bar but BYD’s European customer and experience manager recently said the text will not feature in the forthcoming BYD Seal sedan.

BYD has listened carefully to dealer, journalist and dealer partner feedback during this past year, some in favor of the lettering and others less so,” he told Car Dealer Magazine. “We’ve taken the majority viewpoint and utilized the speed and agility of our vertically-integrated supply chain to ensure that all Seals built for Europe will feature a cleaner rear tailgate design featuring discreet BYD lettering.”

It remains unclear if BYD will make similar changes in other markets. In Australia, for example, the Atto 3 also features the ‘Build Your Dreams’ script and we know that many owners have removed them, opting for a cleaner look. Unfortunately, the placement of the text within the taillight unit of the Dolphin will likely make it impossible to remove for customers.

It is understood that shoppers like the ‘Build Your Dream’ tag in China but those in other markets are not so fond of it.

Beyond the silly badge, BYD has been on an absolute tear as of late. It sold a total of 1,255,637 passenger EVs and PHEVs in the first half of this year, of which 700,244 were sold in the second quarter. Approximately half, or 612,425 vehicles to be exact, sold by BYD this year have been battery-electric vehicles, meaning it is trailing Tesla as the world’s second-largest producer of EVs.
