After bringing the Bronco to Europe, Ford is taking the popular off-roader to China, with local production from the Jiangling Ford joint venture. While the model has yet to formally debut, photos of the Chinese-spec Bronco appeared on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealing a few differences with its U.S.-spec sibling.

All of the Bronco models shown in the gallery have a four-door bodystyle, featuring two different variations of wheels, bumpers, and fender extensions depending on the trim. Differences with the North American model appear to be limited to the Ford lettering on the Bronco-branded grille, the clear reflectors, and the Chinese letters on the tailgate.

Chinese-Built Ford Bronco Breaks Cover With New Badges And 271 HP Engine
Judging from the steelies and the smaller tires, this is likely the entry-level trim of the Ford Bronco in China.

The data from China suggests that the ladder-frame SUV measures between 4,800-4,825 mm (189-190 inches) long, 2,070 mm (81.5 inches) wide, and 1,990 mm (78.3 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm (116.1 inches). The width and wheelbase are carried over, but the length and height are different from the North American Bronco, something that could have to do with the equipment.

The Chinese-spec Bronco will be powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine locally manufactured by the Changan Ford joint venture. The mill produces 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 455 Nm (335.6 lb-ft) of torque which is 29 hp (22 kW / 30 PS) less than the entry-level U.S.-spec model with the 2.3 EcoBoost engine. The gearbox is also expected to be different, with an 8-speed automatic instead of the American 10-speed auto, and no manual option.

Jiangling Ford is expected to start production of the Bronco in 2024. As reported by Car News China, the locally-produced Ford Bronco is expected to start from ¥300,000 ($41,243). This will make it significantly cheaper compared to the imported US-spec examples which cost somewhere in the region of ¥700,000-1,200,000 ($96,233-164,971). Besides the Bronco, Jiangling Ford also produces the Ford Ranger, making it more affordable to Chinese buyers.
