Mid-life crisis cars tend to be pretty obvious and stereotypical. What they typically lack is a bit of practicality and so we wonder if a sedan could fill in as both a mid-life crisis car and as something people would think is cool. If so, what is the perfect mid-life crisis sedan? That’s today’s question of the day.
Right off of the bat let’s clarify that we’re talking strictly about sedans. Hatchbacks, liftbacks, and ‘coupe crossovers’ are all out of the equation. Sadly, that crosses cars like the Honda Civic Type-R and the Toyota GR Corolla out. Still, there are a number of noteworthy competitors here.
The Lexus IS 500 F Sport might fit the bill perfectly. It’s full of personality, very comfortable, feels premium, and just so happens to employ a big V8 under the hood. On top of that, it’s full of Toyota parts so maintenance should be pretty practical. That’s at least what you can tell friends and family.

The Audi RS3 is a solid choice too as it’s not saddled with the stereotypes that BMW drivers get. It’s also very fast and is distinguished as part of the illustrious RS family of Audi vehicles. In addition, it’s available in some really fun colors. Finally, it’s a proper four-door sedan with a great interior and benefits from an outstanding Quattro AWD system.
Of course, an AMG E63 could also fit that bill but Mercedes products come with their own set of stereotypes. The Cadillac CT4 or CT5 Blackwing are excellent but can either be considered cool?
Perhaps it’s a bit too on the nose when it comes to a mid-life crisis car but I think I’d personally go with the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrafoglio. It’s beautiful to look at, even better to drive, and screams high quality to passengers.
