The UAW is ratcheting up the pressure on Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis by announcing plans to expand their so-called Stand Up Strike.
In a video, UAW President Shawn Fain announced a new strike deadline of noon on September 22. He said that if “substantial progress toward a fair agreement” has not been made at that time, more workers will go on strike.
While Fain didn’t say which plants would be targeted, he stated “We’re going to keep hitting” the companies “where we need to, when we need to. And we’re not going to keep waiting around forever while they drag this out.”

He went on to say, “If we don’t make serious progress by noon on Friday, September 22nd, more locals will be called on to Stand Up and join the strike. That will mark more than a week since our first members walked out. And that will mark more than a week of the Big Three failing to make progress in negotiations toward reaching a deal that does right by our members.”
This is the first time the UAW has conducted strikes at all three automakers simultaneously, but they haven’t made much of an impact. As we’ve previously reported, workers are only striking at GM’s Wentzville Assembly, Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant, and Stellantis’ Toledo Assembly Complex.
This has halted production of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, Ford Bronco and Ranger, and Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler. These models get a lot of attention but, if the union wants to amplify things, they’ll target full-size trucks and in-demand cash cows with tight inventories.
