Most police chases end in dramatic fashion. Every once in a while they end up being comical though and that’s what happened when the driver in this story surrendered to police. As they attempted to crawl out of the driver’s side window of the Mercedes-Benz they nearly left their pants behind in the cabin.

This police chase happened in Los Angeles, California on the afternoon of Thursday, September, 21. There’s no word on where the chase began and by the time cameras caught up, the driver was speeding along in the express lane of the 110 Freeway. He kept speeds high after exiting at Crenshaw Blvd while weaving through traffic.

His timing could’ve been better though as traffic was only getting worse as the chase continued. Speeds began to drop and officers maintained a short leash on the suspect before they received help from a good Samaritan. A man in a Toyota pickup truck drove partially into the oncoming lane and boxed in the Mercedes.

That’s when police surrounded the back of the vehicle and the man gave up with his arms waving out of the driver’s side window. Rather than approach the man, police instructed him to exit the car. Why he decided to climb out of the window is unclear though. It’s possible that the door was non-functional or that he decided to do it that way himself.

Regardless of the reasoning, he reaches down, supports his weight on the ground, and then appears to get hung up on the window frame. His pants go from on to not so on and he struggles to free himself for at least two and a half minutes. Finally, he escapes the car with his pants near his knees.

Even the egress is comical in that he does a somersault and then rolls onto his stomach. Police move in and make the arrest at that point. Authorities haven’t released any information about who the man is or what charges he’s facing. They did say that he was just one of four people arrested in connection with this theft.

It’s worth noting that the Toyota driver’s actions were bold but not necessarily safe. There’s no telling what the Mercedes driver might have done had circumstances been slightly different. In addition, the Toyota driver appears to then put himself directly in the line of fire after exiting his vehicle.
