Opel Grandland X Design Line Is Loaded To The Gills With Equipment

Opel wants to appeal to those looking for a more upscale compact crossover with the new Grandland X Design Line.

The newcomer into the range adds a host of features over the regular models and has a starting price of €28,500 ($35,271) in Germany, tax included. That’s just €850 ($1,052) shy off the entry-level Audi Q3 and €440 ($545) more affordable than the base Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Now, you might wonder whether you should spend that kind of money on an Opel instead of a Merc or Audi. Well, if loads of equipment is your thing, then yes. The dual-tone look, with diamond black roof and side mirror casings and 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, along with the standard fog lamps, help it differentiate from the rest of the Grandland X lineup.

Inside, it comes with leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, aluminum sports pedals and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, voice control, reversing camera and others are standard, as are features such as speed limiter, hill start assist, speed sign recognition and advanced park assist.

The Grandland X Design Line is available only with a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder direct-injected petrol engine. The unit delivers 130PS (128hp / 96kW), consumes 5.2-5.3 l/100 km (45-44 US mpg / 54-53 UK mpg) on average, emits 120-121 g/km of CO2 and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The engine complies with the EU6 emissions standards and allows the crossover to sprint to 100km/h (62mph) in 10.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 188 km/h (117 mph).
