A series of patent images have just emerged of the forthcoming BYD pickup truck, roughly eight months after we spied a heavily-disguised prototype in the midst of testing.
BYD has been on a roll in recent years as it transforms into an electrified brand and launches in new markets across every corner of the globe. It has vehicles that compete in many popular segments but has been lacking a pickup truck that will help it to be a better rival to its legacy rivals. That is changing with this pickup.
It’s obvious that BYD’s designers took a lot of inspiration from both the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ranger in designing the pickup. This is most evident from the C-shaped LED headlights similar to those of the Ranger and the thick LED light bar stretching across the fascia much like on the F-150 Lightning. Additionally, just like the Ranger Raptor which has large Ford lettering across its front grille, this pickup has large BYD lettering across its grille.

Elsewhere, we can see that the pickup rocks a double cab with four doors and looks to have quite a spacious interior. It is depicted with roof rails, a sports bar over the bed, and black body cladding across the front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, and wheel arches. It also appears to be offering plenty of ground clearance for any off-road adventures that owners may want to embark on.
The Chinese manufacturer is expected to sell its pickup with both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Details about the BEV are limited at this stage but Car News China speculates the plug-in hybrid will combine a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors making for a combined 489 hp, giving it significantly more power than even the 405 hp Ford Ranger Raptor.
