Hyundai is best known as a car manufacturer but within the broader Hyundai Motor Group are a host of other companies specializing in different fields. One of its affiliates is Hyundai Rotem and it has just unveiled a futuristic tank with stealth technology.
For those that don’t know, Hyundai Rotem is a heavy industry company that specializes in the manufacture of trains, products to assist production lines, tanks, armored vehicles, and unmanned weapon systems. The company’s new tank has been unveiled at the Seoul International Aerospace & Design Exhibition and it is unlike any traditional tank.
The tank, known as the next-generation Main Battle Tank, has an angular design and has been showcased in a light shade of grey and pale cream. It also features a honeycomb pattern across much of the body, including the turret in a bid to help it avoid radar detection. Making this tank all the more intriguing is the fact that it is completely unmanned and has a turret controlled by a remote operator. It also has an active protection system to guard against anti-tank weapons attacks, UPI reports. The tank also works alongside a multi-purpose drone that conducts reconnaissance.
“The latest design, which takes advantage of stealth technology, was created in concert with Hyundai Motor and highlights the future of ground vehicles,” an official from Hyundai Rotem said. “We don’t have a specific timeline for full production yet, as the vehicle is still in a concept stage. We also have to ascertain the demand level from various governments.”
