In between expanding its lineup and developing new technologies, Toyota took the time to introduce a hot version of the Yaris supermini.
The Yaris GRMN will surely get your attention, starting with the flashy decals and roof-mounted wing, and ending with the center-mounted exhaust tip and specially designed alloy wheels. Heck, even the interior gets racing seats and some other touches that set it apart from the regular models.
Of course, is also features some mechanical upgrades too, including a tuned suspension, limited-slip differential and ventilated brake discs. With 209hp (212PS / 156kW) and 184lb-ft (250Nm) of torque produced by the supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, the Yaris GRMN takes a respectable 6.3sec to go from naught to 62 mph (100 km/h).

That’s about the same as the larger Volkswagen Golf GTI, and it even costs as much as the compact hot hatch, undercutting it by just €525 ($643). Or used to cost, at least, because the Yaris GRMN came in just 600 units, with 400 aimed at Europe and the rest being shipped to Asian markets. All of them are already reserved, according to the automaker’s European branch.
We’ve already seen Toyota’s small hatchback being praised in a few reviews earlier this year, but the latest video focuses on its acceleration, and more specifically in the 0 to 100 mph sprint. You may want to turn that volume up, too, because, as the top comment says, “it sounds pretty damn good”.
