The redesigned Audi A1 has been caught virtually undisguised while undergoing testing in Europe.
Looking more mature than its predecessor, the model has a wide Singleframe grille which echoes many of the company’s newer models. We can also see an aggressive front fascia with honeycomb mesh grille inserts and squared off air intakes.
The sporty styling cues continue further back as the A1 has pronounced side skirts, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and a ventilated rear bumper with an integrated diffuser.
Besides featuring more aggressive styling, the car has new side mirrors and a sportier roofline. The greenhouse is also new as designers eliminated the third quarter window and opted for a thicker C-pillar. This decision will likely come at a cost as we wouldn’t be surprised if rear visibility suffers as a result.
Audi has done a pretty good job at preventing spy photographers from snapping interior pictures so little is known about the cabin. However, the car is expected to be equipped with higher quality materials and additional technology. Highlights are slated to include a digital instrument cluster, driver assistance systems and an updated MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines. Nothing is official but reports have suggested there will be a 1.4-liter TFSI four-cylinder with outputs of 125 PS (92 kW / 123 hp), 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp) and 190 PS (140 kW / 187 hp). There could also be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 155 PS (114 kW / 152 hp) as well as a 2.0-liter TSFI four-cylinder which develops 252 PS (185 kW / 248 hp) in the S1 and 300 PS (220 kW / 295 hp) in the RS1.
The Audi A1 will be introduced later this year, so look for a possible unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in the fall.
