The compelling Mazda Vision SP sent hearts racing at its recent unveiling at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo and for good reason. Not only is it seriously sexy to look at but it was also presented with a compelling dual-rotor hybrid powertrain. Some were a little surprised by the size of it, however.

Compared to the current MX-5, the Vision SP is some 10 inches longer. So, to imagine how a future MX-5 could look with the stunning styling of the concept, Theottle jumped on Photoshop and set about shrinking the Vision SP to the same size as the current MX-5.

To do so, the designer didn’t simply take the Vision SP and squish it. Instead, he started with a photo of the existing MX-5 and then started to crop out the various body panels of the concept and wrapped them around the bodywork of the current car. Doing it this way has ensured that the proportions remain spot on and the results are breathtaking.

Among the most striking elements of the Vision SP’s front fascia are the modernized LED pop-up headlights which we would absolutely love for Mazda to bring to the market. There is also an illuminated Mazda badge and a perfectly sculpted black grille. Theottle has also lifted the wheels of the concept onto the MX-5 and they too look superb.

The rear of the Vision SP-inspired MX-5 also looks good. Like the concept, the car has a set of small circular LED taillights and illuminated Mazda lettering that could double as the third brake light.

One key difference between the Vision SP and the MX-5 is that the concept was presented as a hardtop. This gives it a sexier shape than the MX-5 but these renderings prove that it still looks good as a convertible.
