Subaru has joined the expanding roster of automakers embracing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) through a recent agreement with Tesla. This growing industry standard will find its application in Subaru-branded battery electric vehicles slated to hit the North American market starting in 2025.
According to the announcement, the NACS charging ports will be used in “some BEVs released in North America after 2025”. This means that Subaru will still offer BEVs with the CCS (Combine Charging System), although these will also be able to plug in NACS chargers from 2025 onwards, using adapters that are currently under development.

Subaru’s partnership with Tesla opens the door for NACS-compatible models to access over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. This strategy aligns with a growing trend among major automakers, including Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Genesis, Kia, Ford, GM, Nissan, BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Fisker, and Rivian, all of which have announced plans to introduce NACS-compatible BEVs in the near future
The Japanese carmaker recently intensified its electrification strategy, unveiling plans to introduce eight new fully electric models in the coming years. Subaru aims for BEVs to account for 50% of its global sales in 2030, with a similar goal for North America which is its largest market.
Among Subaru’s upcoming EVs is a three-row electric crossover, slated for production in Kentucky alongside its Toyota counterpart, starting in 2025. Toyota has already confirmed the use of the NACS port in its three-row EV, all but confirming that the closely-related Subaru will have it too.
