Automotive design can be incredibly challenging, and it’s evident that more designs miss the mark than hit it. As first impressions go, a pretty face can take a design that isn’t so great and elevate it above its normal station. On the other end of the spectrum, an unattractive grille can ruin an aesthetic almost immediately. That brings us to our question of the day. Which new car has the ugliest grille of them all?

The only rule is that the car must be a current version – either already available for purchase this year or coming soon to a dealership near you. To be clear, the use of the word car refers to any four-wheeled vehicle built and sold for driving on public roads. That means your options are almost endless.

While BMWs like the one in our lead image get a lot of flack for their bulbous noses these days but that feature isn’t exclusive to the brand. Take a look at what GMC is doing these days and you’ll see what almost appears to be a familial link between the two companies. Just check out the front of the Sierra HD AT4X AEV. It’s almost all grille.

The truck choices over on the Chevrolet side of the family aren’t particularly better either though. We could even consider one of BMW‘s direct rivals, Mercedes, as a candidate for this award. The EQ series, while lacking a traditional grille, doesn’t do any favors to the somewhat suppository-shaped lineup with whatever faux design element it employs.

Since there’s no stipulation that the vehicle has to be sold in the USA, I’m going to pick the Lexus LM. I’m all for a great minivan or MPV but that thing looks like the start of a terrible relationship. It’s both scary and sad at the same time. Most of the Lexus lineup has that questionable spindle grille style going on up front, but the LM just goes too far.

These are just a few of the options available today. Have we mentioned your nominee for the ugliest grille currently on sale? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below, and be sure to upvote your favorites.
