Hennessey Performance has worked its magic on Dodge’s greatest and most brutal vehicle: the SRT Demon. As everyone knows by now, the Demon is an 840-hp monster that was created with drag racing in mind. The American tuning company, though, thought it could improve on the performance front, so it increased the output to 1,000 horses.
The Demon is an impressive machine even in stock form. Thanks to its 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 and street-legal Nitto drag radials, the muscle car can get to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. And for drag racers, the vehicle can complete the quarter-mile in just 9.65 seconds.
Hennessey wanted more, and began playing around with a HPE1000 package for the SRT Demon. A week ago, the company released a video of a dyno run. The vehicle they strapped onto the machine was its HPE1000 Demon and, as you can see below, the car put down 880 hp (892 PS) and 806 lb-ft (1,092 Nm) of torque.
After an estimated 20 percent drivetrain loss, the vehicle’s output at the crankshaft is 1,056 hp (1,070 PS) and 967 lb-ft (1,311 Nm) of torque. That’s a considerable 216 hp (218 PS) more than the standard Demon.
With that kind of power increase, we’d expect Hennessey’s Demon to be a lot faster in a straight line. The company recently put out a new video where it showed just how much quicker its new HPE1000 Demon is over a stock model.
In the video below, the tuning company clocks a time of 9.38 seconds in the quarter mile. The vehicle managed to hit an impressive 146.7 mph during the run as well. More impressively, and probably more brag worthy, the Demon reportedly hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in a belief-defying 1.93 seconds.
Watching the HPE1000 Demon sprint down the drag strip is a treat, but hearing it while it does its thing is no less entertaining.
