Not too long ago, Tesla started offering exterior wraps for the Model 3 and Model Y in North America, and a YouTuber recently had the chance to inspect a freshly-wrapped Model Y in person. Although the Forest Green color is pretty dope, the quality of the wrap installation leaves much to be desired.
Tesla is offering seven different wrap colors at its Service Centers in West Covina and Carlsbad, California. Three of them are priced at $7,500, while the other four each come in at $8,000. Forest Green is among the wraps that cost $8,000, which is roughly twice as much as you would probably pay at a typical independent wrapping shop.

Considering the high cost of Tesla’s wraps, one would anticipate them to be installed with millimeter precision. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least with this specific display model. This video highlights numerous problems with the wrap, making it appear as though it was applied by a first-year apprentice, which is not what you’d expect from a major car manufacturer like Tesla.
It remains unclear if the Tesla Service Centers themselves are the ones who install the wraps or if they are contracted out to a third party. In either case, the quality is unacceptable. Plenty of edges have not been stuck down correctly, some areas have started to bubble, and lots of corners have started to lift.
Tesla asserts that its wrap is more akin to a colored paint protection film (PPF) than it is an ordinary vinyl wrap and as such, is thought to be slightly thicker and more resistant to impacts. Nevertheless, this doesn’t excuse the poor installation and the high price.
