Dozens of Ferrari F40s recently gathered together at the carmaker’s home in Maranello, putting on a display that boggles the mind and may never be repeated.

The event was organized by Ferrari itself and is dubbed the ‘Legacy Tour.’ This year, the event was dedicated to the F40 and future events will celebrate other classic Ferrari models. A total of 40 Ferrari F40s from all around the world participated in the three-day event that saw them take to the Fiorani circuit and the city of Maranello.

Ferrari has built so many iconic cars over the decades but most would agree the F40 is one of the very finest. It was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari himself and is known as being one of the most focused and hardcore driver’s cars that the marque has ever built.

One of the key appeals of the F40 is its engine. Slotted beneath the iconic bodywork is a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with 471 hp at 7,000 rpm and 426 lb-ft (577 Nm) of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine has a lot of turbo lag by modern standards but one could argue this makes it even more exhilarating to drive.

Most of the F40s that participated in the recent Legacy Tour were painted in the same shade of red but an F40 painted in a striking shade of mint green known as Verde Pallido also attended. The color of this F40 has been inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO that Sir Stirling Moss raced at the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans. Curiously, this car was not included in a photo shoot taken on the main straight of the Fiorano circuit as part of the tour.
