While the upcoming Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has yet to be unveiled, reports assert that the Italian supercar could be on the verge of setting a new production car lap record around the Nurburgring.

During a recent testing session at the German circuit, YouTuber Misha Charoudin captured footage of the hardcore Aventador completing a lap of the circuit in 6 minutes and 54 seconds, some five seconds quicker than the ‘regular’ Aventador SV.

Crucially, this time was set in less than ideal circumstances. As a matter of fact, a series of cones on the short start and finish straight inevitably hampered its time. What’s more, there were a number of other vehicles on the circuit at the time of the flying lap, potentially costing the SVJ additional time.

With the right conditions and the track all to itself, it seems highly likely that the new supercar can lap Green Hell in under 6 minutes 50 seconds. If it does, it will come perilously close to the 6:47.3 record of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Recent spy shots have revealed that the Aventador SVJ will receive a bespoke aerodynamic package that gives it more downforce than any other variant before it. What’s more, Lamborghini’s engineers have been working their magic on the car’s 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine, and power could sit near the 800 HP mark.
