In the midst of teasing the next M5 Touring, BMW M is subtly offering a sneak peek at the electric i5 Touring in a high-performance attire. The exact debut date hasn’t been announced yet, but we can expect it to make its appearance in the coming weeks.
The specific trim name isn’t specified in the shadowy teaser, but it’s highly likely that it portrays the i50 Touring M60 xDrive. Just to recap, the equivalent i5 sedan boasts 593 hp (442 kW / 601 PS) and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque, thanks to its dual electric motor setup. This power is supplied by a battery pack with a usable capacity of 81.2 kWh, and we anticipate similar figures for the Touring version.

After numerous teasers, spy shots, renderings, and leaked patent drawings, we are pretty familiar with the design of the 5-Series and i5 Touring. The wagon shares the front part of its bodywork with the sedan, adding a redesigned roofline and rear end with slim LED taillights.
As for the M60 xDrive trim that appears in the briefvideo above, it will feature a flashier bodykit courtesy of the BMW M division. Distinctions from the standard i5 include sportier bumpers, aerodynamic mirror caps, larger-diameter wheels, and an array of M badges. However, it’s worth noting that the electric i5 Touring won’t have the same dramatic appearance as the forthcoming M5 Touring, which will occupy the top spot in the range and boast an even more potent plug-in hybrid V8 powertrain.
Unfortunately for US buyers, the BMW i5 Touring will not be offered in North America. However, the Bavarian automaker has confirmed that it will be available in 27 European Union countries, along with the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Japan, and Taiwan.
