It’s not often that a rare Nissan Skyline GT-R M-Spec Nur hits the used car market in the U.S. but at Mecum’s Glendale auction scheduled for March 5-9, that’s exactly what is happening. This 2002 model was imported from Japan into the U.S. in April 2023 and, importantly, is fully street-legal.
While the R34-generation Skyline GT-R is not yet 25 years old, this unit has entered into the country under a “show or display” exemption. Mecum has stated that they will assist the winning bidder in meeting all show or display requirements.
Once these requirements are fulfilled, the owner will be allowed to drive the car for a maximum of 2,500 miles (4,023 km) per year until it reaches the age of 25. At that point, it will be legal to drive without any certification.

All R34 GT-R models are special but this one is particularly desirable as it is an M-Spec Nur variant, created in tribute to Kazutoshi Mizuno, the mastermind behind the GT-R, and named after the Nurburgring. Only 285 M-Spec Nur models were manufactured by Nissan, and this specific one is even rarer as it is one of just 24 painted in black.

The listing notes that the car is completely stock and for a Skyline GT-R, that alone is a rare thing. It continues to roll on the original six-spoke wheels and a look under the aluminum hood shows a gold-colored engine cover and a golden VIN plaque. Found inside the cabin of the car is black leather with heated front seats and contrasting gold stitching throughout.
A look at the odometer shows the car has been driven just under 44,000 km (~27,300 miles). The auction house has not published an estimated sales price for the car but 12 months ago, a similar 2002 Skyline GT-R M-Spec Nur painted in Millenium Jade and also driven 44,000 km fetched $455,000 on Bring a Trailer.
