Subscriptions are getting out of control, so it’s refreshing to see connected car features will come standard on 2025 models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.
The vehicles will come with an OnStar One Essentials package, which combines automatic crash response with remote vehicle commands. The latter enable owners to lock/unlock, start, and locate their vehicle as well as get real-time vehicle status notifications. Buyers will also receive navigation and voice assistance with apps such as Alexa Built-in, Google Assistant, Google Maps, Maps+, and Waze.
The features will be standard for eight years with the purchase of every new vehicle. That’s pretty generous as Toyota appears to give a one-year trial of Remote Connect and Drive Connect. The service then costs $15 per month, which equates to $180 per year and $1,260 over a seven-year period.

GM noted the connected features will come standard on affordable vehicles such as the 2025 Buick Envista and 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The automaker added Cadillac buyers will receive additional premium features, for three years, and this appears to include unlimited in-vehicle data.

Business and fleet customers will receive eight years of OnStar One Business Essentials, which is essentially the same thing with a slightly different name. GM went on to say Canadians will “receive similar standard content.”
According to GM North America president Marissa West, “By standardizing some of our most appealing OnStar features, we can deliver more technology and value at every price point, helping ensure our vehicles and customers stay connected for the long term.” She added the move will enable every new vehicle in our lineup to have a “compelling set of safety and connected services that is distinct to GM thanks to nearly 30 years of OnStar experience and innovation.”
