Unlike Ford, which is pulling the plug on the Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, Fusion and Taurus in the United States, Chevrolet won’t let go of its current car lineup just yet.

As a result, they have already prepped the Spark, Cruze and Malibu for the 2019MY, and they will soon do so with the Sonic too, TheCarConnection reveals, quoting a Chevy spokesperson.

“Sonic will indeed be sold to both retail and fleet customers for 2019 model year”, commented Nick Jaynes Morgan.

The statement follows a previous report that suggested GM might axe the subcompact car, and focus on crossovers and SUVs instead. Also, the document claimed that the Impala could be phased out too, but “in the next few years”.

As far as the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic goes, also known as the Aveo in other markets, it doesn’t appear to have any significant updates, as per an ordering guide sent to dealers.

We’re not sure if it’s pricing will be altered in any way, but we will remind you that the current base hatchback has an MSRP of $15,295 – that’s about $1,000 more than the entry-level Ford Fiesta. According to reports, the MY2019 Sonic will likely come in three trim levels, called LS, LT and Premier, with a choice of either a manual or an automatic transmission.
