Late last year, Brooks from the DragTimes channel on YouTube raced his Tesla Model S Plaid against a Dodge Demon 170 to determine if the send-off to the Challenger had enough to take the crown from the EV king. It didn’t. However, the owner of a freshly-delivered Demon 170 has shown that if you know how to launch the car, it can beat a Model S Plaid.
This blue Demon 170 is owned by Demonology on YouTube. He took delivery of it in late January and has already run it multiple times at the drag strip and unlike in the Tesla, getting the perfect launch in the Dodge requires some practice.

During his most recent outing, Demonology lined up against a black Model S Plaid at Texas Motorplex, playing around with different settings and techniques to launch it in each of the races. In the first one, he did a footbrake launch and rocketed off the line, lifting up the car’s front tires and leaving the Tesla for dead.
In the second and third races, he used the transbrake function and also reduced the horsepower and torque to try and limit wheelspin and get a better launch.
In the final race, the YouTuber set a best time of 9.185 seconds at 146.14 mph (235 km/h). While that is slightly slower than the 8.91 seconds that Dodge claims the Demon 170 is capable of, it is significantly quicker than the 9.7-second run recorded by the Demon 170 in the DragTimes video. It also beats the Model S Plaid from that clip that ran a 9.387-second quarter-mile at 146.81 mph (236 km/h).
So, what’s next? A race between Demonology’s Demon 170 and DragTimes’ Model S Plaid could be on the cards. Who do you think will win?
