Every other week it seems like a comprehensively modified classic American muscle car hits the auction block looking for a new home. Some of these cars have carbon fiber bodywork while others rely on forced induction to deliver extraordinary levels of power.
However, for those muscle car enthusiasts who prefer authenticity over modifications, there are still plenty of options available. This 1969 Dodge Charger is a prime example of a vehicle that has been restored rather than heavily customized.
This Charger will be up for sale thanks to Mecum Auctions at its Houston sales event scheduled for April 6. Muscle cars of this era are absolutely iconic and this one is more special than most as it was originally built for a Dodge advertisement and comes complete with various options.

Immediately making this Dodge stand out from most others of this era is the Butterscotch paint that’s complemented by a host of chrome parts and a black vinyl roof. It has also been equipped with a rare luggage rack on the trunk lid and thanks to a restoration, the exterior looks just as good as it must have when it first left the Dodge factory.
There are plenty of welcome amenities found in the cabin, too. For example, there is air conditioning, tinted glass, and wood-grain trim on the center console. It has also been equipped with an AM radio, a custom steering wheel, and power windows. Dodge’s option Tic-Toc-Tach combination clock and tachometer is also featured.
There are few things that collectors of cars like this appreciate more than an original engine and transmission. Fortunately, this 1969 Charger retains both its original 383 cubic-inch 4-barrel V8 and automatic transmission. This engine was good for 330 hp and 425 lb-ft (576 Nm) of torque when it was new.
