The Ford Mustang is turning 60 and the company is celebrating the occasion with a Mustang Unleashed tour. It kicks off next month and will have 12 stops across the United States.

The journey begins in Long Beach, California as the first leg of the tour will be held in conjunction with a Formula Drift event. The company didn’t go into many specifics, but visitors can expect vehicle walkarounds and demonstrations. There will also be merchandise available for purchase as well as a Mustang Garage, where owners can learn about customizing their car.

Some events, presumably those held at tracks, will also invite visitors to hop in the passenger seat to “experience Mustang’s advanced performance technology with hot laps from professional drivers.” The company also mentioned there will be line lock demos.

Only six cities have been announced at this point, but there will be stops in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia. Ford is encouraging owners of the 2024 Mustang to attend and pre-registration is open exclusively to them. They’ll apparently receive a gift or two as well as other perks.

In a statement, Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino said the Mustang “needs to be more accessible” so “Mustang Unleashed will show customers what makes Mustang great, rather than merely telling them. And by pairing with events and festivals across the country, it will bring Mustang to new customers and grow one of the auto industry’s most passionate fan bases.”

Cobra Jet EV Sets New Record

In other pony car news, the Super Cobra Jet 1800 electric drag racer set a new world record for the “fastest quarter-mile pass with a full bodied-drag car.” At the National Hot Rod Association Winter Nationals, the EV demonstrator ran the quarter-mile in 7.759 seconds at 180.14 mph (289.91 km/h).

That’s significantly better than what the Cobra Jet 1400 achieved in 2021, when it set a record for running the quarter-mile in 8.128 seconds at 171.97 mph (276.76 km/h). Of course, the improvement isn’t too surprising as Ford added 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) and slashed the battery system’s weight by over 40%.
