Four months after Hyundai previewed its track-only Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car racer, the new model has been revealed in full. The carmaker says it signals the start of a new era in sustainable racing and while it shares most of its important powertrain components with the road-going model, it does benefit from a series of important upgrades.
Hyundai has built the car for professional drivers who compete in the N1 racing class where the existing Elantra already competes. It will contest the new eN1 class introduced this year, operating with open regulations where teams are not limited to a single tire manufacturer.
Like the street car, the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car is underpinned by Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and sports an 84 kWh battery pack with an 800-volt electrical architecture. This motor feeds power to a front motor with 222 hp and a rear motor with 378 hp, resulting in a combined 641 hp. The race car can also charge from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
While the powertrain is the same, Hyundai has fitted the Ioiq 5 N eN1 Cup Car with bespoke two-way adjustable dampers that can have the camber tweaked and the ride height changed. The racer also has new six-piston front and four-piston forged calipers. A bespoke set of 18-inch forged wheels has also been developed for it, wrapped in 18-inch slick tires for maximum grip.
The aerodynamics have also been significantly altered. Changes include new flared arches, a more pronounced front lip, and a rear wing. The hood is also constructed from FRP and there are now polycarbonate windows. Interestingly, the road car’s N Grin Boost, N e-Shift, and N Active Sound systems have been retained and teams will be able to develop their own sounds for the EV.

Safety upgrades made include a multipoint welded roll cage, bucket seats with six-point racing harnesses, a high-voltage shutoff system, a higher voltage warning indicator, and an asphyxiation fire layer. The charging port has also been relocated.
The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car will make its debut at the Hyundai N Festival in South Korea.
“We are incredibly proud to unveil the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable racing,” vice president and head of N Brand & Marketing at Hyundai Till Wartenberg said. “This unique electric racing car demonstrates our cutting-edge technology and passion for pushing the boundaries of what EVs can achieve on the racetrack.”
