- A California driver lost control of their vehicle while rounding a bend on a residential street.
- The car hit a house’s front lawn, which launched it into the air, and through a garage door.
- The driver suffered moderate injuries, but was able to exit the vehicle under their own strength.
It turns out that when a car picks a fight with a garage door, it wins, though it’s a bit of a Pyrrhic victory. That’s what one driver learned this month after launching their vehicle over a pickup truck, and into a home.
The accident happened on April 4, in Jurupa Valley, California, and footage of it was caught by a neighbor’s doorbell camera. Weirdly, the accident happened on the way into a cul-de-sac, at around 6:30 a.m. on a Thursday morning.

Little explanation is given for the crash, but Richard Hernandez, who recorded video of the accident and shared it with Storyful, said that the car lost control while carrying too much speed into the corner leading to the dead-end residential street.
Indeed, we can see that the car understeered off the road, narrowly avoiding a Ford Fusion parked on the street. However, it wasn’t able to avoid a wooden fence, driving through it and over the front lawn of the unfortunate home into which it would eventually crash.
Unfortunately for the driver, a gentle slope in the lawn wound up launching the car into the air, and over the hood of a what looks like a white Ford F-150. The second white pickup was less lucky, and ended up being struck by the car’s rear wheels after it first hit the garage door.
Such was the force of the impact that the car struck the garage’s door frame as well, and landed on its side. Fortunately, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle themselves before first responders arrived.
However, the driver did not escape completely unscathed, and was taken to hospital with minor to moderate injuries, authorities said. Luckily, no one else was injured in the incident, but for the people living in the house, the crash must still have been a (literal) rude awakening.
