The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance will arrive at U.S. dealerships this spring carrying a base price of $83,900. That makes it one pricey, high-performance plug-in hybrid.
Speaking of which, the model has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a rear-mounted electric motor, a 6.1 kWh battery pack, and a fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This setup gives the car a combined output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 752 lb-ft (1,018 Nm) of torque.

That’s far more than its predecessor and the car can rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds. If drivers keep their foot planted, they’ll eventually top out at 155 mph (250 km/h) or 174 mph (280 km/h). The model can also travel a relatively short distance on electricity alone, although the EPA hasn’t published figures yet.
Sticking with the performance theme, the sport sedan has composite brakes, dynamic engine mounts, and an AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive damping. Drivers will also find eight different drive modes as well as a rear axle steering system that turns the wheels up to 2.5 degrees.
Mercedes didn’t delve into equipment details, but the model has an aggressive front fascia with a Panamericana grille. Buyers will also find a four-tailpipe exhaust system as well as a charging port located on the rear fender.
An assortment of options will be available including an AMG Performance Design Package, which “emphasizes the vehicle’s highly dynamic character with 20-inch forged wheels, red brake calipers, AMG Track Pace, an elevated top speed and even more aggressive exterior styling – from the rear diffuser blade to larger flics on the front fascia, side skirt inlets and outer grooves on exhaust tips.” Customers can also order two different AMG Night and Carbon Fiber packages.
Moving inside, buyers will find AMG sports seats with MB-Tex and microfiber upholstery as well as heat and power adjustment. AMG Performance seats are available as an option as is Nappa leather.
Putting the seats aside, the car comes equipped with an AMG Performance steering wheel as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. An 11.9-inch infotainment system resides nearby and features an assortment of AMG- and hybrid-specific displays. Rounding out the highlights are a panoramic glass roof, a 64-color ambient lighting system, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system with a streaming music capability.
Customers looking for more equipment can upgrade to the Pinnacle trim, which adds Digital Light headlights with projections. The range-topping variant also comes equipped with a head-up display as well as augmented reality navigation.
