- The concept has been conceived around a 150 kWh battery pack and three electric motors.
- Despite only being a two-seater, the car has a massive 3,240 mm (127.5-inch) wheelbase.
- Sadly, the car won’t reach production.
Italdesign has introduced a compelling new concept at the Beijing Auto Show dubbed the Quintessenza. The car has been created as the perfect “embodiment of the relationship between humans and nature” and draws on more than 50 years of Italdesign heritage.
The Quintessenza takes the form of a high-riding two-door with a generous cabin for four occupants. A pair of slim LED headlights make the front of the concept stand out and have been complemented by a small vertical LED in the center of the fascia. Carbon fiber wheel arches that protrude from the rest of the body catch the eye as do driving lights incorporated into these arches.

Although the concept only has two doors, it is as big as a large four-door sedan. It measures 5,561 mm (219-inch) in length, stands 1,580 mm (62.2 inches) high, and is 2,200 mm (86.6 inches) wide. It also sports a massive 3,240 mm (127.5-inch) wheelbase, hence why there is room for a spacious cabin.
The intriguing design features continue across the rear of the car. Italdesign has created the Quintessenza with a rear hatch that can be removed. The second row of seats can then spin around 180 degrees and face the rear while offering plenty of legroom. This isn’t something that’s feasible for production but it helps Italdesign ensure occupants are connected to the outside world.
A human-centric approach has also driven the design of the concept’s interior. It includes a floating dashboard made from marble-based fabric that incorporates air conditioning and infotainment controls. There is also a yoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a smartphone app where the driver can customize the car’s controls and the driving experience.
Italdesign says the concept is based around a lightweight aluminum structure and features a massive 150 kWh battery pack with an 800-volt electric architecture. A large electric motor at the front axle and two in-wheel motors at the rear axle combine to produce 778 hp (580 kW), allowing the car to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds. The design house also promises a range of 750 km (466 miles). This being a concept, these numbers will never be verified.
