• Fortunately, no one was injured in this bizarre Lake Forest crash.
  • Fire crews had to isolate the water grid to stop water from shooting out of the fire hydrant.
  • Repairing the Kia could be costly if it’s sustained water damage.

The owner of this silver Kia in California had a wet and soggy evening on Sunday after getting into a crash with a white pickup truck in the small city of Lake Forest. Local authorities described the scene as “something you don’t see everyday,” and they’re absolutely right.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Jeronima Road and Heide Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. While little is known about what led to the crash, the Orange County Fire Authority received a call that someone may have been trapped in one of the cars and rushed to the scene.

When fire crews arrived, they were confronted with the most bizarre of incidents. Footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows the sedan, which appears to be a silver Kia Optima, resting against the white pickup with its rear end directly above a broken fire hydrant. The force of the water pushed the rear of the Kia into the air, creating a scene that looked fit for a movie and not one locals would have expected to see on the evening commute.

Fortunately, the drivers of the Kia and the pickup had gotten out of their vehicles before the firemen arrived. Both drivers were treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital.

With assistance from the Lake Forest Police Services, authorities were able to isolate the water grid on each side of the hydrant. This lowered the pressure of the water, returning the Kia to ground level, and allowing firefighters to access the water shutoff.

Getting involved in an accident with another car is bad enough but the run-in with the fire hydrant has caused even more damage to the Kia. In addition to the water lifting its rear end off the pavement, it’s damaged the rear bumper. The trunk lid is also open and there’s a good chance gallons of water have entered into the Kia’s cabin. If there is water damage, then repairing the car could prove to be very costly indeed.
