- A new recall requires 2020-2025 Porsche Taycans to be repaired in the U.S.
- Dealers have been instructed to install new front brake hoses.
- Existing front brake hoses can become compressed over time and crack.
Electric vehicles are heavy, and heavy cars need good brakes. Unfortunately for the owners of almost 32,000 Porsche Taycans in the United States, their EVs have front brake hoses that could crack, leading to a loss of brake fluid that could render the front brakes useless.
Porsche has revealed that during certain steering and driving conditions, the front brake hoses can get compressed, and over time, this could damage the inner fabric layer of the hoses. Brake fluid will be lost if cracks form, and warning messages will appear on the dash. This warning message could include one that reads ‘Brake Fluid Low’ or one that says ‘PSM Failure.’

The manufacturer started to receive reports of front brake hose leaks in June last year, including seven reports in the U.S. It started to investigate the issue and also conducted tests on how well the Taycan would slow if the front brakes failed, but those at the rear remained operational. Porsche is unaware of any accidents in the U.S. but does know of a crash that happened elsewhere where a Taycan was traveling at roughly 120 km/h (74 mph) in a 30 km/h (18 mph) zone.
A total of 31,689 Taycan models in the United States are involved in the recall. These consist of 2020-2025 models manufactured between October 21, 2019, and June 13, 2024.
Porsche will notify dealers of the recall on July 3, while owners will be notified on August 16. To resolve the fault, dealers will install new front brake hoses with an increased bending radius, reducing the load on them while driving. The fix will be performed free of charge, and any owners who have paid to fix the issue will be reimbursed.
