- A Cybertruck owner recently recounted an accident involving his electric pickup.
- He says an oncoming Ford Excursion hit his pickup but that his family all survived.
- Video shows the Ford hitting the Tesla while the Cybertruck tries to avoid the collision.
The Tesla Cybertruck might get a lot of flack for several of its design feature, but its stainless steel body’s toughness is hard to dispute. That body, along with other safety features is getting significant praise from one owner after a violent crash. A Ford driver crossed a double-yellow line and struck the Tesla.
Photos from the aftermath show the driver’s side of the Cybertruck completely mangled. The entire section of the truck after the B-pillar is ruined, the rear driver’s side wheel is gone, and the curtain airbags hang from the ceiling.

“A guy crossed over the double yellow and I could not get out of the way fast enough. We were both at highway speeds.. My wife, granddaughter and I we’re all shaken and are being evaluated (at the emergency room and I’m bored, hence the reason for the post).
No critical injuries. The other guy was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. We were spun but not flipped. Thank you Tesla engineering and manufacturing. This truck gave its life for us. I’ll be getting another.”

He added in another comment that the Ford’s left front was “completely flattened, all the way to the windshield.” That’s not wildly surprising considering the age and safety standards that apply to these very different vehicles. Video shows that there was basically nothing John could do to avoid the crash.
If his estimate of speed is correct, then each car is traveling at 55 or more MPH. He’s in a single lane with a barrier on the right. The Ford is initially in the fast lane of a two-lane section of the road. The SUV clearly travels across the double-yellow and into on-coming traffic as John exits a curve.
Between the moment when the Ford first touches the double yellow to the moment of the crash is less than two full seconds. We’re just glad that it appears as though everyone survived. We’ve reached out to John for additional information as he has it.
