- Porsche’s popular Roof Tent now has a gazebo companion, the Porsche Canopy Tent.
- The Canopy Tent has a 5.3 sqm (57 sq ft) floor area and can be connected to the open hatch of a car, or to other Canopy Tents.
- Accessories include an extension tent that can be used as a bedroom and side panels without windows, or with mosquito nets.
If you like cars and ever venture near Instagram you’re bound to have come across Porsche’s popular Roof Tent. Now the automaker has revisited the idea and added a pop-up gazebo structure to its list of branded equipment called the the Canopy Tent.
The word tent conjures up images of something you’d sleep in, and which is probably too small to allow a person to stand up. But the Canopy Tent is the opposite. It’s basically just a big box that, when there are no sides zipped in, looks like a giant display case, the sort of transparent prison where the keep baddies caged up in James Bond films, or maybe a weird art installation depicting how wealthy people picnic in 2024.

Measuring 5.3 sqm (57 sq ft) in its purest form, the Canopy Tent is modular in that it can be used on its own, or attached to other pieces to make it more useful. So there’s a connecting tunnel that lets you join it to the open hatch of your Macan or Cayenne and you can daisy-chain it with other Canopy Tents or add an available sloping extension that can be used for sleeping. Other options include sides with mosquito nets or without windows.
As with the Roof Tent, the Porsche name is clearly displayed, and sister company Porsche Design has also come up with a range of accessories to keep your entire outdoor experience on-brand. Those include the PDS20 Outdoor Speaker, which looks like a 21st century version of an old-style water canteen, a double-walled Porsche thermal travel mug and a water-repellant backpack.
With all of this just a wave a of a credit card away, there’s nothing to stop you getting out and connecting with nature in your Porsche. Or, since you can afford a new Porsche, you could just stay in a nice posh hotel, like most rich people do.
