- A Cybertruck owner claims that they’ve lost $12,000 worth of value on their 2024 pickup already.
- They worry that the curve is only going to get steeper in the next few months.
- It appears as though they forgot that the vast majority of cars depreciate and Teslas are no different.
A decade ago there was little question about how valuable a car would be months after it was new. Simply driving a new car off of the lot meant its value went down significantly. When the pandemic hit, it completely tossed the prices in the car market around. But now that prices and market conditions are coming down to “normal”, one Tesla Cybertruck owner is surprised that he’s losing serious money on his truck after putting 7,500 miles on it.
That seller popped up on a Cybertruck Facebook group looking to sell his blue-wrapped truck. “Well we’ve already lost $12k. We paid $110k. Going for $98k or lower now. Holy depreciation. I’ll be lucky to get $60k in April. FML,” they say.

That means this truck lost about $1.60 of value on average per mile. That also doesn’t include any costs associated with the blue chrome wrap, the tinting, or any other associated bills. It’s unclear who the seller is but that experience is one that more and more Cybertruck buyers are coming to grips with. A pricing graph of public auction data at Bring A Trailer shows that values for the Cybertruck are slowly dropping.
A tri-motor Cyberbeast recently crossed the block for $120,500 or about the same as it would’ve been brand new. That’s down from a $140,000 sale earlier in the year. The last three dual-motor Cybertrucks to go on sale there didn’t hit their reserve prices either and only one of them crested triple-digit figures.
This shouldn’t be all that surprising to anyone really. Before the pandemic it was very rare to see car values hold as well as they did for a time afterward. Now, prices are dropping across several segments and electric vehicles are among the ones that got hit the hardest. The Cybertruck, while bright and flashy, is simply not immune to depreciation and this is just another reminder.
