Hyundai’s N performance division knows a thing or two about developing cars that feel right at home on the racetrack, and its next product, the Ioniq 6 N, is taking shape and being tested to its limits at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
The Korean carmaker is one of many brands that have a testing facility on the outskirts of the famous German circuit and recently brought a heavily camouflaged prototype onto the track. It was tested in both dry and damp conditions, and for an EV that will weigh well over 2,000 kg (4,400 lbs), it looks very quick and impressively flat during some of the track’s high-speed corners.

The world was provided a glimpse of the Ioniq 6 N a couple of years ago with the launch of the RN22e ‘rolling lab’ concept. This concept was the first vehicle from Hyundai to feature a simulated eight-speed transmission, a system that would go on to premiere in the Ioniq 5 N. That car has received plenty of praise (and awards), and the low-slung nature of the Ioniq 6 N could mean it can be even more enjoyable to drive.
You may notice the front fascia of this prototype looks quite a bit different than the current Ioniq 6. This is because it sports the same facelifted front end that’s being readied for the rest of the Ioniq 6 family. The most significant change will be the implementation of split headlights, as opposed to the somewhat odd headlights of the current car. This should give the car a more dynamic and aggressive look, perfect for the N variant.
Plenty of unique touches will be made to the Ioniq 6 N, including a revised splitter, new side skirts, and a unique rear end. The most obvious upgrade that can be seen on this prototype is the fixed wing.
The car will probably share its powertrain with the Ioniq 5 N. That would mean it gets an 84 kWh battery pack driving a pair of electric motors with 601 hp and 545 lb-ft (739 Nm) of torque, figures that climb to 641 hp and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) with N Grin Boost enabled.
