In recent years, we’ve seen the world of restomod Porsche 911s soar massively, thanks to companies like Singer, Gunther Werks, Tuthill, and many others. Another brand to work on some fabulous 911s is Kalmar Automotive and it’s back with another special build but this one has a bit of a twist.
While much of the appeal of a modernized classic 911 is the screaming, high-revving engine, Kalmar’s new 7-97 E-Volt is all-electric. The thought of a restomod 911 powered by electricity may make some people shudder, but we suspect there’s demand for cars like this out there, and Kalmar obviously feels the same.

This specific 911 started out life as a 964 model and now rocks an up-cycled and re-engineered powertrain from a Tesla Model S. The battery is a 63 kWh unit, and the motor delivers an impressive 450 hp and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque. That’s enough to propel the sports car to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than 4 seconds. It can travel a claimed 180 miles (290 km) on a single charge and, when optioned with the CCS fast-charging function, can be topped up from zero to 80% in less than one hour.
At this point, you may be thinking to yourself that a 964 with a 63 kWh battery would be extremely heavy. But according to Kalmar, it isn’t, claiming the 7-97 E-Volt tips the scales at 1,374 kg (3,029 lbs), equivalent to an original 964 Turbo.
New body panels crafted from lightweight flax fibers have been used and give the car a unique presence on the road. The aerodynamics have been improved and the car looks quite a bit meaner than a regular 964, too. Adaptive suspension is fitted as standard and Kalmar also offers customers the choice of upgraded steel or carbon ceramic brakes.
The cabin benefits from some modern features too. These include electric air conditioning, a Bluetooth audio system supporting Apple CarPlay, rain-sensing wipers, soft leather, semi-aniline materials, and an option of different colors.
Each conversion starts at a cool €450,000 (~$500,000). While that’s a huge amount of money, owners can rest easy knowing that should they ever have a change of heart, the modifications are completely reversible.
