Saleen is no longer the almighty Ford Mustang modifier that it once was, and while it continues to build some cool cars, few are quite as appealing as this Mustang Convertible from 1989. Sure, it’s pretty old, but it’s only been driven ~11,000 miles, is quite rare, and looks quite sporty. What’s not to like about it?
This is #668 of the 734 Ford Mustangs that Saleen modified for 1989 and is one of just nine examples produced with these specific options. It’s painted in Oxford White with silver gradient stripes and was sold on Bring a Trailer for $65,000 in April 2022. Once again, it’s available through BaT and includes manufacturer’s literature, Saleen documentation, a clean Carfax report, and a Texas title.

Plenty of custom touches have been made to the Mustang’s exterior, including the rocker extensions, the thoroughly revised front and rear fascias, and the large rear spoiler. It also sits on 18-inch modular five-spoke wheels with Saleen center caps and clad in Landsail LS588 tires.
Like other projects, Saleen spent considerable time upgrading the car’s mechanical components. The ‘Stang rocks Racecraft suspension with new front and rear shocks and beefed-up brakes. Power comes courtesy of a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 225 hp and 300 lb-ft (407 Nm) of torque while coupled to a five-speed manual transmission sending power through the rear wheels.
The car’s interior is also quite special. Saleen has fitted special Flo-Fit front bucket seats and a rear bench clad in Grey Titanium cloth with red piping. There’s also a custom Saleen Mustang embroidered on the floor mats and door panels, as well as a numbered plaque near the shifter.
The Mustang is currently available in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It may not be particularly fast compared to a modern-day model , but we’re sure many enthusiasts would love to cruise around in the Florida sunshine in this rare droptop.
