The Honda Pilot is having a strong year in the US, with sales up 25 percent from January through September. On the other hand, Honda’s mid-size Passport has seen a decline in popularity, with a 29 percent drop in year-to-date figures, possibly indicating that potential buyers are waiting for the unveiling of the new generation.

From the beginning of the year, Honda has delivered 959,371 vehicles so far during the first nine months, marking a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Despite this, September’s sales were down 7 percent, with most models losing ground.

The biggest drop in September was recorded by the Honda Passport, with sales down 43 percent. Other models that saw declines include the Accord (-20%), Civic (-16%), CR-V (-16%), HR-V (-15%), and Ridgeline (-3%). On the bright side, the Pilot saw a 62 percent increase in September, selling 10,630 units. Notably, the rugged TrailSport trim made up over 16 percent of Pilot sales in 2024.(-43%

Year-to-date numbers look more positive for the HR-V (+32%), Civic (+28%), and CR-V (+14%). The CR-V remains Honda’s most popular model in the U.S., with 298,164 units sold so far in 2024. Unfortunately, the Ridgeline is facing a 17 percent decline in sales for the year.

In terms of electric vehicles, Honda sold 3,785 units of the Prologue in September 2024, describing it as a “strong month.” However, this number is just a fraction of the 30,080 total sales of electrified Honda and Acura models for the month, with hybrids contributing the majority.

Hybrids made up over 54 percent of CR-V sales, more than 50 percent of Accord sales, and about 18 percent of Civic sales. Lance Woelfer, vice president of Auto Sales at American Honda Motor, mentioned that the company has faced “supply issues due to preparations for EV production and disruptions caused by Hurricane Helene in the Southeast.”

The Acura division sold 9,926 units in September 2024, a 22 percent drop compared to September 2023. The largest decline was seen in the TLX (-55%), followed by the Integra (-46%), MDX (-25%), and RDX (-16%). Acura’s year-to-date sales now stand at 97,124 units, down 12 percent compared to the same period last year.
