The Subaru Crosstrek has overtaken the Forester as the brand’s best-selling model in the US thanks to strong sales over the past few months.

While sales of the Forester SUV dropped 14% in September (13,111 units), its year-to-date total (130,098 units) is still 22% higher than the same period last year, largely driven by its strong performance in the first half of 2024.

On the other hand, the Subaru Crosstrek had its best-ever September, recording a 25 percent sales increase (16,633 units), with its year-to-date sales gaining 15 percent (131,847 units). The Impreza-based crossover’s sales are still on the rise from August when its popularity skyrocketed by 46.5 percent (20,396 units).

The Outback was Subaru’s second best-seller in September with 13,991 units delivered, a 4% decline. The biggest drop came from the soon-to-be-discontinued Legacy, which sold 1,739 units (-36%). Still, the sedan outperformed the BRZ sports car (292 units, +8%), the WRX (1,329 units, -18%), and the fully electric Solterra (1,074 units, -4%).

In total, Subaru delivered 56,414 vehicles in September 2024, which is just 59 units (+0.1%) more compared to the same month last year. Year-to-date, Subaru’s U.S. sales stand at 493,612 units, reflecting a 5.6% increase.

Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales at Subaru of America, commented: “With Crosstrek’s popularity steadily growing and the Outback continuing to succeed, both models finished the month with strong results, resonating with both first-time and returning Subaru owners.”
